The design and application effect of the farrowing crate

The pig farrowing crate is specially designed to prevent sows from stepping on their piglets and improve piglet survival rate. It has been used since the 1940s, and now it has become the most commonly used sows delivery system in the world. The use of the farrowing crate will reduce the death rate of Suckling piglets by about 1/3, but the the farrowing pen also strictly limits the body position and movement space of the sow, reduces the activity quantity of the sow, and lowers the body constitution of the sow, thus reducing the use life of the sow.

As people are increasingly concerned to sow welfare, many improved system have been developed, which can reduce the limitation on the sows, allowed sow a certain degree of freedom, such as round, oval, ellipsoid, rotary and ground tilting piglet birth raise the bar and so on.
